Australia Eastern (New South Wales, Victoria, Australia Capital Territory and Tasmania) and Central (South Australia) time zones will extend daylight saving and also harmonize start and end times commencing April 2008. From April 2008, daylight saving will end on the first Sunday in April and recommence on the first Sunday in October in all states.
This change will affect Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Outlook and other Microsoft, third party and custom applications:
- All Microsoft Windows PC, server and mobile devices in the affected time zones will need to be updated.
- Microsoft Office Outlook calendars may need to be adjusted. Client and Server-based tools to automate this process are available from the Microsoft Download Centre.
- Microsoft, third party and custom applications which schedule events at future dates should be reviewed to ensure they will operate correctly during the extended daylight saving period. Previously scheduled events may also need to be adjusted.
- Microsoft recommends that all PC and server systems are updated regardless of location to ensure consistency of operation.

Microsoft heeft met het uitbrengen van Windows Server 2008 een nieuw ijzer in het virtualisatie vuur geworpen.
Microsoft heeft gekozen voor een hypervisor oplossing, vergelijkbaar met Citrix’ Xen oplossing.
Voordeel van een hypervisor oplossing is dat het doorgaans sneller is maar een belangrijk nadeel is dat het erg afhankelijk is van de hardwarelaag. Zo heeft het doorgaans ook de virtualisatie-extensies in de processoren nodig (AMD’s Pacifica of Intel’s Vanderpool).
Mary Jo Foley legt in haar artikel uit wat dus de verschillen en gelijkenissen zijn tussen de diverse virtualisatieproducten in de markt.

Anderson Patricio’s 2e artikel over het genereren van Active Directory accounts vanuit de Exchange 2000/2003 mailbox database staat online.
Unfortunately in Exchange Server 2000/2003 we do not have Windows PowerShell in the picture to export and match users and disconnected mailboxes, however we are able to do the same tasks using a tool called the Mailbox Reconnect tool (mbconn.exe). We can donwload this tool from the Microsoft FTP site.
This tool will create in its first instance a list of all disconnected mailboxes to an LDF file, then we will create the users using ldifde and we will run the tool again to match and join the new accounts with the disconnected mailboxes.

Adnan Khan beschrijft een geheel andere techniek van backuppen dan de traditionele manier. Deze techniek noemt men synthetisch omdat de bestanden geen exacte kopieen zijn van de originele bestanden. De backup bestanden worden samengesteld vanuit de originele bestanden door en speciale applicatie.
Deze manier lijkt op de traditionele manier van een full backup met meerdere incremental backups. Het grote nadeel van de manier is dat bij een restore heel veel handelingen moeten worden uitgevoerd om tot de oorspronkelijke situatie terug te komen. Een synthetische backup zorgt ervoor dat elke keer na een incremental backup alle wijzigingen sinds de full backup in 1 file aanwezig zijn. Dit geeft een enorme winst in het geval van een restore.
