Het blijkt dat servicepack 3 voor Office 2003 een aantal bestandsformaten blokkeert. Bestanden van bijvoorbeeld Lotus Notes of Quattro Pro worden niet meer geopend en gebruikers krijgen in plaats daarvan een melding dat de formaten onveiliger zijn dan de Office 2003 en 2007 formaten. Uiteraard kan dit tot lastige en vervelende situaties leiden. Er is dan ook nogal wat ophef over ontstaan op het web.

Microsoft heeft ondertussen wel een supportartikel uitgebracht waarop staat hoe het gedrag van de Office programma’s is aan te passen. Je zult deze aanwijzingen wel moeten volgen want SP3 kan na installatie niet meer verwijderd worden.

Op het MSDN-blog van David LeBlanc wordt wat dieper ingegaan op het probleem van de ‘onveilige bestandsformaten’. Zo vertelt hij dat uiteraard niet zozeer de bestandsformaten onveilig zijn maar meer Microsoft’s code om de bestandsformaten te lezen.
Ook heeft hij links naar de reg-bestanden waarmee het e.e.a. weer ongedaan kan worden gemaakt.

Onder bepaalde omstandigheden blijkt dat Outlook en Exchange fouten maken met betrekking tot de starttijden van meetings. Het blijkt soms te gebeuren dat er een uur verschil in zit.
Het artikel legt keurig uit wanneer dit gebeurt en met welke workaround er een werkbare oplossing gevonden kan worden.

User1 creates a recurring appointment that occurs daily and that starts on November 1, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. |

User2 uses Office Outlook 2007 to access a mailbox that is hosted on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. |

User2 creates a new appointment that occurs daily and that starts on November 1, 2007. |
In this scenario, when User2 adds User1 to the list of attendees and then clicks the Scheduling Assistant tab to view the Free/Busy information, the appointment that occurs on November 1, 2007 displays the start time as 11:00 A.M. However, appointments that occur after November 4, 2007 display the start time as one hour later.

WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, follow these steps:

In Office Outlook 2007, open the appointment or meeting request. |

Click Scheduling. |
|
3. |
Click Options, and then click Show Calendar Details. |
After you follow these steps, you can view the correct Free/Busy information for the meeting request. However, an additional 1-hour block is also scheduled as busy.

Hitachi heeft aangegeven te zullen stoppen met het produceren van harde schijven met kleine capaciteiten. Het blijkt dat de concurrentie met flash chips te groot is om nog een goede marge te kunnen draaien.
Het is echter niet zo dat er ineens gestopt wordt met produceren maar er wordt niet meer actief naar nieuwe klanten gezocht. Dit houdt natuurlijk in dat deze business alleen maar kleiner zal worden.

Maar alles blokkeren is soms ook niet wat je wilt. Kun je het niet zo doen dat je zelf bepaalt wie wel en wie geen OOF krijgen?

Hitachi is in gesprek geraakt met Toshiba en Fujitsu over de oprichting van een nieuw storage bedrijf. Het bedrijf zou harde schijven en opslagsystemen gaan ontwikkelen. Dit is nog niet bevestigd. Alledrie de bedrijven zouden een gelijk aandeel krijgen.
De reden voor de merger zou gelegen zijn in het feit dat de Japanse bedrijven niet echt zitten te wachten op overnames door externe investeerders.

It is no secret that Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) introduces many new GUI features to the Exchange Management Console User interface (UI). I’ve already covered many of the new features as well as any improvements to existing UI features in previous articles of mine. In this article, we’ll look at just another new and very useful UI feature included in Exchange 2007 SP1, and that’s the new Export List feature. The Export List feature allows us to export lists from the Result and or Work pane in the Exchange Management Console, Public Folder Management Console, Details Templates Editor, and the Queue Viewer.

For years, vendors like IBM Corp. and integrators like Electronic Data Systems Corp. have gone into large shops and holistically examined their IT systems.
