Het Europese Hof heeft commisaris Kroes en de Europese Commissie in het gelijk gesteld en Microsoft schuldig bevonden aan misbruik van haar positie in de markt.
Kroes heeft ook onmiddellijk dreigende taal jegens Microsoft geuit. Ze komt met nieuwe sancties als Microsoft zich opnieuw niet houdt aan de uitspraak van de rechtbank.

Microsoft deed het al eerder, een examen kan tijdelijk gratis over gedaan worden.

CPU fabrikanten doen steeds meer hun best om het energieverbruik van hun processoren naar benedente krijgen. Wat velen, in deze tijden van megaconsolidatie en virtualisatie, over het hoofd zien is het energieverbruik van het RAM in een systeem. Memory kan zo'n 12 Watt per DIMM verbruiken. Systemen met 64 GB of meer aan geheugen kunnen dus behoorlijke hoeveelheden stroom verslinden.

Microsoft gaat vandaag het 3e service pack voor Office 2003 uitbrengen. Een veel gebruikte functie van Word, "fast save", komt indeze release te vervallen.
De belangrijkste reden hiervoor is gelegen in het de manier waarop Word het deed. In plaats van het hele document opnieuw te schrijven bewaarde Word alleen de wijzigingen sinds de laatste save.
Het gevaar hiervan is dat vertrouwelijke data nog in het document aanwezig zijn, ook al denkt de gebruiker van niet.
Daarnaast zijn er volop verbeteringen en security fixes in het service pack te vinden. Zo zou deze versie beter moeten kunnen samenwerken met Windows Vista.

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Software Update Service provides an automated way to update all unified communications devices deployed in an organization.
This download is comprised of three files:
- OCS_UpdateServiceDeploy.doc – the deployment guide for the Software Update Service. You should read this guide to help you install and configure the Software Update Service.
- OCSSoftwareUpdateService.msi – used to configure the Software Update Service component on your Office Communications Server 2007 Web Component Servers or your Standard Edition server.
- OCSSoftwareUpdateServiceSP.msi – to configure the Update site on the SharePoint Service.

Scott Lowe van TechRepublic heeft wat gedachtes opgeschreven over Microsoft's keuze om alleen een 64-bit versie uit te brengen van Exchange 2007 (en een test versie in 32-bits).
De belangrijkste redenen zijn voor Microsoft waarschijnlijk wel geweest dat 64-bit enorme voordelen op het gebied van geheugen heeft. 64-bit zal ook niet meer weggaan.

AMD heeft onlangs de Barcelona quadcore Opteron uitgebracht. Deze presteert uitermate sterk. Intel heeft tijdens de IDF laten zien hoe de prestaties van de 45nm Harperown Xeon zich tot de Barcelona's verhouden. Intel heeft er wel een 700 MHz meer voor nodig maar streeft AMD dan wel voorbij, zij het net.
Op zich heeft Intel kennelijk wel een flinke inhaalslag gemaakt omdat AMD tot nu toe altijd aanzienlijk sterker was met de SPECfp_rate2006 benchmark.
T.o.v. haar eigen Clovertown Xeon heeft Intel zo'n 30% snelheidswinst weten te boeken, een behoorlijk prestatie.

Intel heeft aangekondigd dat de opvolger van de huidige USB 2.0 standaard in de eerste helft van 2008 uitkomt. Versie 3.0 moet zuiniger worden maar bovenal sneller. Sneller als in een factor 10.
De kabels blijven dezelfde, ze zijn opbackwards compatible. Naast de koperkabels komen er ook optische kabels. Tot welke bandbreedte de koperkabels geschikt zijn is onduidelijk, glas zal in ieder geval de 4,8 Gb/s kunnen ondersteunen.
Omdat het doorgaans zo'n 2 jaar duurt voordat fabrikanten nieuwe technologie gaan gebruiken verwacht Intel dat de eerste USB 3.0 producten in 2010 op de markt zullen komen.

Intel heeft gezegd dat ze in 2008 flashdrives in servers zullen gaan inbouwen. Men begint met 32 GB, dat verhoogt de snelheid van een server al aanzienlijk.
De verwachting is dat de capaciteiten later naar 64 en 128 GB zullen groeien.
