De verwachting is dat VMware, een onderdeel van storage-gigant EMC, vandaag bekend zal maken dat de opvolger van GSX-server gratis zal worden. GSX-server draait op een host-systeem onder Windows of Linux. De opvolger zal VMware server heten.
Op dit moment kost GSX-server zo'n $ 1.400 voor een dual-processor machine en $ 2.800 voor krachtiger hardware.
Wat VMware gedreven heeft tot deze beslissing is officieel onbekend maar het lijkt erop dat de concurrentie in deze markt de drijfveer is. Waarschijnlijk hoopt VMware meer interesse te kweken voor het produkt waarna bedrijven kunnen upgraden naar ESX-server, zodra de krachtigere functies van ESX-server nodig zijn.
Op dit moment is het produkt nog in de beta-fase en is hier te downloaden: http://www.vmware.com/products/server/. EMC VMware verwacht dat het produkt nog definitief in H1 2006 zal verschijnen.

Microsoft heeft een licentieovereenkomst gesloten met Sony Ericsson voor het gebruik van het Exchange ActiveSync protocol. Dat houdt in dat de Sony Ericsson P990 en de M600 telefoons straks direkt wireless kunnen synchroniseren met Exchange. Beide toestellen zullen in Q2 2006 leverbaar worden.

Nu Windows Server 2003 R2 eindelijk beschikbaar is komen ook de eerste tips beschikbaar voor dit OS. Zo is deze tip, over de MMC een hele aardige:
By default, Windows 2003 R2 uses the old MMC 2.0-style UI with the old snap-in dialog box and no Action pane. To enable the new features and interface, perform these steps:
1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC.
3. From the Edit menu, select New, Key.
4. Enter a name of UseNewUI and press Enter.
5. Close the registry editor.

- Op MSexchange heeft Rodney Buike een artikel geplaatst over OWA 2003 provisioning. Sinds SP2 voor Exchange 2000 zijn er meer mogelijkheden voor provisioning. Zo is het bijvoorbeeld mogelijk om een aantal features uit te schakelen.
Outlook Web Access (OWA) in Exchange 2003 is now even more customizable than ever before. Provisioning OWA will allow you to remove certain features for security and performance reasons, or if you are providing hosted Exchange mailboxes, resell certain features as value added features.

Overview
The folder in this download, DSACLS Snippets, contains DSACLS command syntax text files. The DSACLS command syntax text files are named according to the location in the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in that the syntax text refers to. You can copy and paste the content from the DSACLS command syntax text files into the DSACLS.exe tool. For more information, see DSACLS Command Syntax Snippets.
In many organizations, there are separate administrators for Exchange and Active Directory, which leads to a need to delegate administrative functions, so that distinct boundaries of administrative rights are maintained. In this type of model, known as a split permissions model, operations are decentralized in that two or more operation teams manage aspects of Exchange and Active Directory. For example, one operations team might manage domain and forest functions, while another operations team manages Exchange-related functions. In these situations, certain rights must be delegated to all personnel so that they may complete their job functions without compromising the operational and security boundaries.

Henrik Walther werpt een eerste blik op het kortgeleden geintroduceerde tool van Microsoft; Exchange Server Profile Analyzer (EPA) tool.
The purpose of the Microsoft Exchange Profile Analyzer tool is to provide Exchange administrators with different kinds of statistical information from either a single mailbox store or a complete Exchange organization. The collected data or information can then be used to analyze the performance and health of one or more mailbox servers, improve capacity planning models, improve testing methodologies and tools as well as improve future client and server products. But please bear in mind that the statistics collected by EPA are estimates only. This means that the accuracy of these estimates vary depending on how and how often users manage their mailboxes.

Microsoft heeft de maandelijkse vooraankondiging gedaan van de te verschijnen security bulletins. De 'vangst' van deze maand is als volgt:
- Een bulletin voor Windows Media Player, rating Critical.
- Vier bulletins voor Windows, de hoogste rating is Ciritcal.
- Een bulletin voor Windows en Office, de rating is Important.
- Een bulletin voor Office, de rating is Important.
Zoals altijd is er een update van de Malicious Software Removal tool. Deze wordt niet via SUS verspreid.
Er zal ook een non-security update verspreid worden via WSUS, maar niet via SUS.
