Het blijkt dat de driver van een veelgebruikte netwerkkaart van Realtek stilletjes bestanden sloopt. Het upgraden van de driver blijkt het probleem op te lossen.
Driverversie 6.191 is de foute versie, versie 6.195 verhelpt het probleem.
In hoeverre dit nog betrekking heeft op de driverversies die Microsoft out of the box met bijvoorbeeld XP levert is onduidelijk.

Intel heeft een nieuwe chipset in de ontwikkeling gehad en die is nu klaar. Deze Caneland chipset is geschikt voor systemen met 4 CPU's zodat er met quadcore CPU's totaal 16 cores aanwezig kunnen zijn.
De chipset heeft een nieuwe interconnect tussen de 4 CPU's waardoor er duidelijk meer geheugenbandbreedte beschikbaar is. Men denkt zelfs dat de performance voor multiprocessor systemen hiermee verdubbeld is.
Het gebruik van de moderne Xeons draagt wel bij aan een lager energieverbruik. Daarentegen gebruikt Intel voor deze systemen full buffered memory wat weer zo'n 6% meer energie slurpt. Met 16 tot 64 memory modules kan dat toch duidelijk van invloed zijn op het totale energieverbruik.
Of Intel nu klanten weet te overtuigen over te stappen op dit platform is nog maar de vraag. Het platform dat Intel hierna wil brengen, met de codenaam Nehalem, is waarschijnlijk nog 2 keer zo snel.

Overview
Web Scheduler is a resource kit tool for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. It provides a Web-based alternative to the add-in for the Microsoft Outlook messaging and collaboration client for the purpose of scheduling a meeting using Office Communications Server 2007. It also provides a browser-based conference management experience that includes operations such as:
- Scheduling a new Live Meeting conference or conference call.
- Viewing and modifying details of an existing conference.

Een ander tool is van de hand van het Nederlandse C't magazine. Na het succes heeft het echter een internationaal broertje gekregen.
Dit tool kan zowel Engelse, Nederlandse, Duitse, Spaanse als Portugese (en Braziliaanse) Windows 2000, XP als Server 2003 installaties updaten.

Op 31 juli heeft VMware een aantal belangrijke updates uitgebracht voor haar vlaggeschip virtualisatieplatform ESX 3.0. Met versie 3.0.2 worden er uiteraard bugs gefixed maar ook behoorlijk wat nieuwe zaken ondersteund. Denk hierbij aan meer backup software, OS upgrades (waaronder Windows Server 2003 SP2) en nieuwe hardware.
Ook de bijbehorende tools, zoals Virtual Center en Consolidated Backup hebben een update gekregen. Met Consolidated Backup 1.0.3 wordt iSCSI bijvoorbeeld nu officieel volledig ondersteund.

We then went through the trials and tribulations of getting Exchange 2007 installed on the Mailbox server and Hub transport server.
In this article, which is part 3 of the series, we will return to the Mailbox and Hub Transport server and configure the SMTP “service” on the Hub Transport Server. I put “service” in quotes since there doesn’t seem to be an SMTP service as there was in Exchange 2003.

Henrik Walther schrijft over het load balancen middels Windows Network Load Balancer van Exchange 2007 client access servers.
In this article I will show you how you can load-balance Exchange 2007 Client Access Servers (CAS) using Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB) technology. By implementing a load-balancing solution, you can distribute client workload among multiple servers and thereby increase performance and decrease downtime by eliminating the single point of failure that exists in a topology with only one single Client Access server.
Bear in mind that a load-balancing solution can also be accomplished using a 3rd party load-balancing solution, but as mentioned we will base this article on the NLB component in Windows Server 2003. NLB works well and should be a suitable solution for most enterprise organizations.

Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition
An Enterprise Edition deployment consists of a one or more Enterprise Edition Servers connected to a separate, shared Microsoft SQL Server database that form an Enterprise pool providing IM, conferencing, and audio-video functionality. This two-tier architecture, delivers substantial improvements in availability, scalability, and performance over the Standard Edition.
Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition
A Standard Edition deployment consists of single, standalone server together on the same computer with an SQL Server Express Edition database for storing user data and providing IM, conferencing, and audio-video functionality. Standard Edition Server is the appropriate choice in small or pilot deployments where enterprise-level capacity, availability, and performance are not required.

We have heard from customers who tried to install Exchange 2007 RTM for the first time in their environment and then encountered setup failures either because one or more domains in the forest did not have a Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 Domain Controller / Global Catalog (DC/GC) server (these domains typically only had Windows 2000 DC/GCs) or one or more child domains in the forest were not reachable. In both cases, when Exchange 2007 RTM setup is run for the first time or when the Administrator attempts to prepare a domain for Exchange 2007 by running setup.com /PrepareAD or setup.com /PrepareDomain, setup would fail and the Exchange Server Setup Progress Log would contain information which would be similar to the following:

For unreachable domains, this typically happens when setup tries to read the SID of the Domain Admins group from each of the child domains that only have Windows 2000 DCs. Since the membership of the Domain Admins security group does not get replicated to GCs, setup needs to contact a DC in that domain and it fails if it determines that the domain is unreachable.
For domains that are reachable but only have Windows 2000 DCs, setup fails when trying to add the ACEs on the Domain Container and the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container for the Exchange Servers Universal Security Group.
With Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1, this behavior will change. When Exchange 2007 SP 1 setup is run, it will be allowed to proceed even if it finds no suitable domain controller in other domains. SP1 setup will require a Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 DC/GC in the domain that setup is being executed from, but all other domains are not going to be checked for this requirement. You will however need to ensure that you have at least one Windows 2003 SP 2 DC/GC in every domain that needs to be prepared for Exchange 2007 SP1 at the later time (in other words - if you need to run the Exchange 2007 /preparedomain setup switch). All other domains could contain only Windows 2000 DCs/GCs.
