The Terminal Services Management Pack for Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 monitors the health and performance of Terminal Services components. It includes a rich set of views, tasks, and reports, and provides monitoring for Terminal Services, the Licensing Server, and the Session Directory.
This Management Pack detects and alerts problems with performance, health, and availability. It can automatically respond to critical events and performance indicators. In some cases it identifies issues before they become critical, enabling you to increase the overall availability and performance of your Windows operating systems.

Overview
WSUS 3.0 delivers new features that enable administrators to more easily manage and deploy updates across the organization. This package installs both the WSUS 3.0 Server and WSUS 3.0 Administration Console components. You must install the server components on a computer running Windows Server 2003 SP1 and later. You may install the Administration Console on a remote computer running Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, or Windows Vista.
WSUS 3.0 Server Installation on Windows Small Business Server 2003
If you are installing the WSUS 3.0 product on Windows Small Business Server 2003, follow the instructions in Installing WSUS 3.0 on SBS 2003.

Overview
Updated versions of Times New Roman (regular, bold, italic and bold italic), Arial (regular, bold, italic and bold italic) Trebuchet (regular, bold, italic and bold italic), and Verdana (regular, bold, italic and bold italic) that include six additional characters not available in the Windows XP versions of these fonts. The new added characters are Unicode code-points U+0218, U+0219, U+021A and U+021B used for Romanian and U+040D and U+045D used in Bulgarian.
For Windows Vista, the update will only upgrade the Verdana font family. The other font families do not need to be updated.

Microsoft heeft vorige week het 3e service pack voor ISA Server 2004 uitgebracht.
Overview
Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 SP3 provides the latest updates to ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition, with increased security, new troubleshooting tools, and improved log viewer functionality. This service pack also adds support for publishing Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 with ISA Server 2004. We strongly recommend customers install ISA Server 2004 SP3 on all computers running ISA Server 2004.
ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition SP3 can be installed directly on computers running ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition, and includes:
• All software updates issued since ISA Server 2004 was released to manufacturing.
• Fixes for common issues reported by customers through Microsoft Customer Service and Support.
• Improved log viewer functionality, including an enhanced details pane view, text coloring, and new log filtering functionality.
• Updated ISA Server Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in functionality that provides access to troubleshooting tools and options available directly from the ISA Server Management console.

The May security bulletins have been released again. This month a total of 7 Critical bulletins have been released.

Microsoft heeft nu in een officieel statement bekend gemaakt dat de opvolger van SQL server 2005 in 2008 uit zal komen. Dit product, dat nog met de codenaam Katmai wordt aangeduid, zal beter integreren met producten zoals Office 2007 en Sharepoint Server 2007. Verder is het nog niet bepaald duidelijk welke features er zullen komen.

De markt voor NAS-only storage oplossingen is behoorlijk minder snel aan het groeien dan een paar jaar terug. Het zal terugvallen van 20% naar zo'n 9% volgens Gartner.
Unified storage echter is een heel ander fenomeen, dat blijft groeien als kool. Met name Network Appliance doet het goed in deze markt nu steeds meer NetApp gebruikers hun apparaten gebruiken voor SAN-oplossingen. De belangrijkste reden blijft uiteraard money driven: het is goedkoper.

Tijdens de patchronde van deze maand werd het al duidelijk, Windows Server 2003 RTM (de eerste release) werd niet meer genoemd.
Microsoft heeft dan ook de support voor dit platform beeindigd. Voortaan is er alleen nog support voor de SP1 en SP2 (en R2) versies.
Wie nog geen SP1 heeft geinstalleerd zal dat wel snel moeten gaan doen.

De bekende MVP Susan Bradley heeft het te berde gebracht: het heeft er alle schijn van dat de Internet Explorer update (MS07-027) van deze maand een beetje een zorgenkindje is. Van een aantal kanten komen er signalen dat de update een negatief effect heeft op de performance van Outlook 2003.

Exchange Server 2007 is de eerste versie van het Microsoft Messaging platform dat is gebaseerd op een 64-bits architectuur, waardoor onder andere vergaande consolidatie mogelijk is. Tevens is Exchange Server 2007 de eerste versie van het Messaging platform waarin Unified Messaging is opgenomen. Hierdoor wordt het platform ook via telefonie beschikbaar.
