Microsoft onderzoekt een oude fout in Classic ASP die zijn herintrede weer gemaakt blijkt te hebben in SP2 voor Windows 2003. De-installeren van het service pack blijkt de fout ook weer te laten verdwijnen.
Session_OnEnd not firing after applying Windows 2003 Service Pack 2
We very recently discovered a bug in classic ASP (asp.dll) you get installing the Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003; removing the SP2 makes it work again as expected, so this is a regression bug introduced by the service pack itself. Basically with SP2 installed, the Session_OnEnd() method in classic ASP is not fired anymore, thus breaking all applications which rely on that event to run cleanup code.
We already have some reports from customers, either directly to CSS or in Newsgroups. I know my colleagues are already well on this, a private fix has been produced and is being tested internally (as far as I know it works) and we are writing a KB article to document this.
The process is still ongoing so I don't have (and can't give you) further details on this, but I guess it's a matter of days before this will be publicly available; of course I'll update this post when we'll have the KB available.

Cisco heeft security advisories uitgebracht voor meerdere kwetsbaarheden in de Unified Call Manager en de Unified Presence Manager.
Het blijkt hier vooral om DoS-kwetsbaarheden te gaan. Er zijn geen workarounds mogelijk, wel heeft Cisco updates beschikbaar.

Data Protection Manager 2007 komt eraan en er verschijnt al de nodige informatie over het nieuwe produkt.
DPM v2 is a promising product, read the facts below:

Bink schreeuwt het zo ongeveer van de daken: voor de backup (en restore natuurlijk) van Exchange is Data Protection Manager straks een fantastisch tool.
Met name de restores waarbij je geen data verliest lijken veelbelovend.
Microsoft heeft er al een datasheet over online staan.

Microsoft heeft een extra tussentijds security bulletin uitgebracht. Dit naar aanleiding van het ernstige lek dat eerstdaags gemeld werd in de afhandeling van geanimeerde cursors in diverse Windows versies.
Het lek blijkt actief op websites misbruikt te worden. Mensen kunnen dit niet zien maar hun PC kan dan misbruikt worden voor diverse ongewenste zaken, slechts door het bezoeken van een website. Zelfs de eigenaar van de website weet het meestal niet, zijn of haar website is dan simpelweg gehackt.

De update is nog geen dag oud of er is al een issue bekend met de update voor het ANI-lek.
Realtek geluidskaarten hebben mogelijk een probleem. Hier is alweer een hotfix voor maar die is nog normaal verkrijgbaar, alleen op aanvraag.
SYMPTOMS
When you start a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2, the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL. This problem occurs when the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel (Rthdcpl.exe) by Realtek Semiconductor Corporation is installed.
CAUSE
This problem may occur after you install security update 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008). The Hhctrl.ocx file that is included in security update 928843 and the User32.dll file that is included in security update 925902 have conflicting base addresses. This problem occurs if the program loads the Hhctrl.ocx file before it loads the User32.dll file.

DMCUG Update - Bijeenkomst 24 April 2007 bij HP, Orteliuslaan 1000, 3528 BD te Utrecht
Na de succesvolle eerste bijeenkomst van de DMCUG in januari bij Microsoft in Schiphol-Rijk is de tijd gekomen om een tweede bijeenkomst te organiseren.
HP Nederland is dit keer de host voor onze bijeenkomst, waarvoor onze hartelijk dank! Deze tweede bijeenkomst zal op 24 april 2007 plaatsvinden in het auditorium van HP in Utrecht. Dit zal in de vorm van een pizza sessie zijn. De ontvangst is vanaf 15:00 uur en de sessies beginnen om 15:30 uur. Rond de klok van 19:30 uur te zullen we eindigen met een borrel.

Virtualisatie van Microsoft Exchange Server – Martijn Spelt
Virtualisatie is een technology die ook steeds vaker voor Exchange Servers wordt toegepast. Martijn geeft een overzicht van virtualisatie, de pakketten die daarvoor gebruikt kunnen worden en de do’s en don’ts voor zowel Exchange 2003 als Exchange 2007 virtualisatie.

Hierin gaat HP in op een aantal praktijkvoorbeelden van Nederlandse (non) profit bedrijven en hun effectief gebruik van VOIP technologieën, UC en Exchange 2007 in de praktijk. Ook de nieuwste Smartphone wordt getoond.

Afgelopen week bracht Microsoft bulletin MS07-017 uit. Al snel bleken systemen met de RealTek HD driver hier problemen mee te ondervinden. Later bleken ook een aantal wat onbekende programma's, zoals Tugzip en CD-Tag, er problemen door te ondervinden.
Naar aanleiding hiervan zal Microsoft de komende week, tijdens de reguliere patchronde, de update bijwerken zodat de problemen tot het verleden behoren.

Overview
Use Microsoft Exchange Load Generator (LoadGen) as a simulation tool to measure the impact of MAPI clients on Exchange servers. LoadGen allows you to test how a server running Exchange responds to e-mail loads. To simulate the delivery of these messaging requests, you run LoadGen tests on client computers. These tests send multiple messaging requests to the Exchange server, thereby causing a mail load. LoadGen is a useful tool for administrators who are sizing servers and validating a deployment plan. Specifically, LoadGen helps you determine if each of your servers can handle the load to which they are intended to carry. Another use for LoadGen is to help validate the overall solution.
Important! LoadGen should be used only in laboratories that have no connection to the production environment. This tool should not be used in any way in a production environment or an environment that is mission critical or contains important information of any kind anywhere in the network.
Note: The XML configuration file schema in this release has changed from previous versions. If you intend to use configuration files that were created with previous versions of Exchange Load Generator and you have specified client machines to use as remote load generators, you will need to open your configuration in the Load Generator UI, add your remote client machines again, and then save the updated configuration.
Note: If you use the recipient management features of this release to create users or other recipient objects and you have one or more Exchange Server 2007 servers in your test topology, you must run the Load Generator application with user credentials that have permission to manage Exchange recipients. The directory access account specified in the application configuration will not be used for this purpose.

Overview
Use Jetstress to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users. You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.
Note Jetstress is only supported when running with Exchange 2000, Exchange 2003, Exchange 2007 or newer versions of ESE.DLL. Also, due to this support limitation, Jetstress is only supported on Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, Advanced Server, Datacenter and newer Windows OS platforms (Windows NT 4.0 and older builds are not supported).

Het zal nog wel enkele jaren duren maar de beslissing is er: VGA en DVI gaan verdwijnen en de nieuwe aansluiting heet DisplayPort.
Deze zal op zowel monitoren (flatpanel), projectoren, PC's en andere consumenten electronice terug te vinden zijn.
Versie 1.1 van de standaard zal uiteraard ook bescherming bieden tegen het kopieren van digitale signalen.
Het belangrijkste verschil met alle voorgaande standaarden is toch wel de kleine en handige USB-achtige connector.
