Vandaag, 12 maart, zal Intel twee Xeon 5300 processoren uitbrengen die slechts 50 Watt verstoken. Het gaat hier om quadcore Xeons met de typenummers L5310 en L5320.
Met 50-Watt zit Intel flink lager dan vorrgaande Xeons die eerst 120 Watt en later zo'n 80 Watt verstookten.
Later dit jaar zal Intel dan de kloksnelheid opschroeven naar 3 GHz met een FSB van 1600 MHz. Daarna zullen processoren volgen die volgens het 45nm procede worden gemaakt.
Concurrent AMD heeft nog geen quadcore ijzers in het vuur, die komen pas later dit jaar.

Microsoft heeft voor zowel de 32- als de 64-bits versies van WIndows Server 2003 het tweede service pack uitgebracht. Wel moet je opletten met installeren mocht je IE 7 er al op hebben draaien. Die zul je eerst moeten de-installeren. Er zijn losse downloads, er zijn ISO-varianten, ze zijn uiteraard ook al op Windows Update te vinden.
Daarnaast zijn er ook weer de blocking tools om verspreiding tegen te gaan zoals we dat ook bij SP1 (en SP voor XP) zagen.

Nu SP2 voor Windows Server 2003 uit is gebracht heeft Microsoft ook de lifecycle informatie over Windows Server 2003 bijgewerkt. Het belangrijkste is dat de RTM-versie van Windows 2003 tot 10 april van dit jaar ondersteund zal worden. De ondersteuning van SP1 loopt af op 14 april 2009.

Overview
The Hotfix Scan Tool is a Visual Basic script file (HotfixScanTool.vbs). You can use this tool to scan for hotfixes that will potentially regress after you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). This tool can be run before or after installing Windows Server 2003 SP2. Volgens onderzoeksburo IDC staat virtualisatie in de ICT aan de vooravond van de grote doorbraak. De mainframe- en UNIX-wereld hebben technologisch nog steeds een grote voorsprong maar in omvang zit de groei vooral bij VMware, Microsoft en Xen. Processorfabrikanten AMD en Intel helpen natuurlijk door functionaliteit in hun processoren te bakken die hierbij helpen.
