Overview
The VM contains a trial version of Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Excel 2007 and Word 2007. The Exchange Calendar Update tool is preinstalled as well. The VM can be used on both Virtual PC or Virtual Server.

Important:
Before you run the Exchange Calendar Update tool, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 930879, "Addressing daylight saving time using the Exchange Calendar Update tool," for complete information about potential effects on your IT environment and user base.
For users in time zones who are affected by the DST 2007 changes, installing the Windows time zone update from KB 931836 on client machines running Outlook will cause all appointments (both recurring and single instance) that occur during the extended DST period to be incorrectly displayed as having moved one hour ahead. These appointments will need to be updated so that they display correctly in Outlook, Outlook Web Access, and CDO-based applications. The Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool enables end-users to update their own calendars.
The Exchange Calendar Update Tool enables administrators to avoid the challenges involved with broadly deploying the Outlook tool to all users and ensuring that each user runs the tool correctly.

SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Windows-based applications that use the TZ environment variable may not work as expected because of changes to daylight saving time (DST). Starting in the spring of 2007, the DST start date and the DST end date for the United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. DST in the United States will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November) than in previous years.
In Windows Vista, in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and in Microsoft Windows XP, when you use the TZ environment variable, the C Run-Time (CRT) localtime function and the CRT _localtime64 function will not correctly recognize DST. These functions will recognize DST as starting on the first Sunday of April and as ending on the last Sunday of October for all dates.

Outlook 2007 is the latest version of the e-mail client for accessing an Exchange mailbox. To make this version of Outlook very flexible, it can connect to a mailbox on the following versions of Exchange:
- Exchange 2000
- Exchange 2003
- Exchange 2007
However, if your mailbox is on an Exchange 2007 server, there are many new Outlook features that "light up". By "light-up", I mean that you will see new features available in Outlook 2007 simply because your mailbox is on Exchange 2007.

Het is natuurlijk niks nieuws, de heoveelheid data die bedrijven opslaan blijft groeien. Niet gestaag maar explosief. De groei is natuurlijk dusdanig groot dat bedrijven voor enorme investeringen staan en het nauwelijks kunnen bijbenen.
Uit onderzoek zijn wat cijfers bekend geworden. Zo hebben de bedrijven uit de Fortune 1000 in 3 jaar tijd hun opslag zien groeien van 190 Terabyte tot 1 Petabyte. Bij middelgrote bedrijven is de behoefte in dezelfde periode gestegen van 2 TB naar 100 TB. Een opvallend verschil overigens.. een groei van 5 tegenover een groei van 50.

Overview
Use Jetstress to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users. You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.
Note Jetstress is only supported when running with Exchange 2000, Exchange 2003, Exchange 2007 or newer versions of ESE.DLL. Also, due to this support limitation, Jetstress is only supported on Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, Advanced Server, Datacenter and newer Windows OS platforms (Windows NT 4.0 and older builds are not supported).

Overview
The Exchange Server Management Pack includes rules and scripts to track performance, availability, and reliability of Exchange components, such as Internet-related services, Extensible Storage Engine, System Attendant, Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, and SMTP.
This management pack not only validates the availability of communication services but also sends test e-mail to verify operations and measures actual delivery times.
The Exchange Management Pack Configuration Wizard provides a graphical user interface to configure Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 Management Packs, including test mailboxes, message tracking, and monitoring services.
The Exchange Server Management Pack Guide for MOM 2005 explains how to use the Exchange Management Pack to monitor and maintain messaging resources. Each of the Active Directory service sites where Exchange mailboxes are hosted must have a Hub Transport server role to control messaging between sites, even within a single site. Within this article we will dive a little bit deeper into this new technology and I will explain how it works. Part I explains the vocabulary and the architecture to help you understand how Exchange is designed and how it works, Part II will show how to configure it on Exchange Server 2007 using the GUI administration tools and Powershell.

Het is IBM gelukt om HP voorbij te streven in de markt voor externe opslagsystemen. Een aantal jaren terug had HP nog een flinke voorsprong maar die heeft IBM kunnen inlopen. EMC heeft echter nog steeds een flinke voorsprong. HP's CEO Mark Hurd heeft ook toegegeven dat zijn storage divisie het niet zo goed heeft gedaan. HP blijkt een groot deel van de omzet uit tape systemen te halen. Deze markt wordt meer en meer door harddisksystemen overgenomen.
Concurenten zoals Fujitsu, NetApp, Dell en Sun zijn ook belangrijke spelers in deze markt.
