Ook PDA's hebben time zone informatie ingebakken en aangezien op diverse plaatsen in de wereld de DST aangepast wordt hebben ook PDA's die informatie nodig.
Microsoft heeft de registry wijzigingen die ervoor nodig zijn wereldkundig gemaakt maar de meeste PDA-fabrikanten lijken hun klanten vergeten te zijn.
Zij moeten de wijzigingen doorgeven aan hun klanten maar dat lijkt maar niet te gebeuren. De site heeft een link naar een CAB-file waarmee je zelf de wijzigingen kunt maken.

The worldwide changes in Daylight Savings Time will give a lot of administrators a headache. So many programs must be modified: think about Windows itself, Exchange but also the Outlook mail client.
Fortunately Microsoft is offering help, among which the Outlook Time Zone Data Update tool.
Microsoft Office Outlook
A program will be released in January 2007 through the Microsoft Download Center that can update calendar items in Outlook to accommodate the changes in DST during the Extended DST period. This program is called the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft® Office Outlook® (Time Zone Data Update Tool).
Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, the newest version of Outlook, has the ability to automatically detect the DST change and prompt the process that updates a person’s calendar to conform to the new daylight saving time rules. However, the Time Zone Data Update Tool contains enhancements that improve upon what is available in Outlook 2007and should be run instead of the out-of-the-box Outlook 2007 experience.
The Time Zone Data Update Tool is necessary to update calendar items that occur during the Extended DST periods for the following earlier versions of Microsoft Outlook:
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
Microsoft Outlook 2002
Microsoft Outlook 2000
The following table describes the situations when you should download and run the Time Zone Data Update Tool:

On the Exchange team blog an Exchange Server 2007 setup GUI walkthrough has appeared. This is good news as Exchange 2007 is rather new for most of us and the info comes straight from Microsoft.

Microsoft heeft nog het nodige werk te doen waar het integratie van diverse van haar produkten betreft. Kortgesteld: Exchange 2007 draait niet op Microsoft's eigen laatste virtualisatieprodukt Virtual Server 2005 R2.
Het loopt echter wel op software van VMware. Maar het schijnt ook niet compatible te zijn met Microsoft's nieuwe serverprodukt, nu nog met de codenaam Longhorn.

Bij het Internet Storm Center heeft een van de handlers nog maar eens de gevaren van de Sun Java Runtime aangestipt. Er verschijnen regelmatig updates voor JRE en niet zonder reden.
Eigenlijk elke keer wordt er een lek gevonden dat niet mals is.
Sun helpt ons dan wel een handje door nieuwe versies te distribueren, je systeem vraagt er soms zelfs om. Dat wil niet zeggen dat het gevaar van een vorige versie van de JRE dan verdwenen is.
Oude versies blijven gewoon geinstalleerd en dat is omdat sommige software perse een bepaalde versie nodig. Ook malware maakt gebruik van JRE en het gevaar is dat malware een bepaalde versie van de JRE aanroept, want dat kan.
Dus mocht je nog software op je systeem hebben die een oude JRE nodig heeft, update dan deze software en verwijder de oudere versies van de JRE.

In Exchange 2007, the Recipient Configuration node and its child nodes (Mailbox, Distribution Group, Mail Contact, Disconnected Mailbox) of the Exchange Management Console (console) are used for recipient management. By default, up to 1000 recipients in the current domain are displayed in the result pane of the Recipient Configuration node and its child nodes. For organizations with more than 1000 recipients, 1000 recipients have to be displayed by default while they may not be the specific set of recipients that you want to manage, and you may not want to wait until they are displayed. This article gives a few tips to manage and speed up the console view.

Chris Dalby bespreekt ADmodify.net als tool om Exchange 2003 mee te behren maar ook te recoveren.
ADModify.net is an excellent tool for Exchange and Network administrators allowing bulk modifications of Active Directory objects. The tool was designed by the Exchange Support Services team using C# .Net 2003. Essentially, you can use it to change any Active Directory attribute of an object or select multiple objects to make attribute changes in bulk. Even those attributes not available in the Graphical User Interface (GUI) can be specified by Name and Value making ADModify.NET a truly essential tool for administrators.
This tool has saved my life on more than one occasion when I used it, with great success, to recover from a hardware failure on Exchange server.

Het blijkt dat R6 en R7 van Lotus Notes niet kunnen samenwerken met de nieuwste versie van McAfee virusscanner VSE 8.5i.
Dit pakket is al sinds november 2006 op de markt maar hoe het kan dat dit erdoor geslopen is blijft onduidelijk. McAfee zegt hard bezig te zijn met het maken van een oplossing.

Microsoft zegt bezig te zijn een nieuw tunneling protocol, genaamd Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol, te ontwikkelen. Dit protocol moet ervoor zorgen dat het aanzienlijk eenvoudiger wordt om externe machines een connectie te geven op een bedrijfsnetwerk. Dit kan veel vragen aan helpdesks wegnemen. Iets waar bedrijven met L2TP of PPTP dikwijls mee geconfronteerd worden.

On the blog of Eileen Brown is a nice post about all the things an organisation needs to do to tackle the DST issues.
She has been digging in the Microsoft organisation to find it out and her assessment tells us that Outlook is probably the most difficult part of problem.

"Outlook is looking like it's going to be a pain in the butt. The problem is that when you apply the Windows Operating System Update for DST 2007 you will have Outlook calendar appointments off by 1 hour during the DST Change periods.
The solution requires three things to be in place for Outlook calendar items to be updated properly.
- The Operating System update to change the time zone information. 928388 or 914387 (available now).
- The Exchange Server 2003 Update for CDO. 926666 (available now).
- The Outlook Time Zone Data update Tool and the Exchange Time Zone Update Tool. (not released yet).
If all of these patches and tools are not used together, then there will be calendar inconsistencies. If you install update 928388 or 914387 for the operating system without doing anything else, users are notice that the meetings during the DST change periods are ahead by 1 hour. This is expected behavior without installing the Exchange server hotfix 926666 patch and using the Outlook or Exchange tool to rebase the appointments that are in the DST change period.

Marc Grote beschrijft hoe je Microsoft Exchange Load Generator moet gebruiken om je Exchange systeem te stress-testen. Dit kan bijvoorbeeld gedaan worden voor benchmarking.
As a first step you should know that you use the Microsoft Exchange Load Generator only in test environments and not in your production Exchange Organization. Exchange Load Generator simulates Active Directory users which send messages against the Exchange Servers. Microsoft Exchange Load Generator uses many simulated Exchange user mailboxes which need a corresponding Active Directory user account so the Load Generator creates the required user accounts. The password for all created user accounts must be the same.
After the tests are complete you can use the test results to do the following:
- Identify bottlenecks on your Exchange Servers
- Verify a Exchange deployment plan
- Validate Exchange Server configurations and settings
