Op het blog van het Microsoft Exchange team, you had me at EHLO, beschrijft Scott Landry hoe je meer controle hebt met Exchange 2007 over het toestaan van relaying door bijvoorbeeld applicatieservers over Exchange 2007.
Het blog beschrijft heel uitgebreid hoe het in zijn werk gaat, geheel met screenshots gecompleteerd.

Zat er bij vorige versies van Exchange bij de Client Access License ook automatisch een licentie voor Outlook, is dit bij Exchange 2007 ineens niet meer het geval.
Het vrije gebruik van Outlook 2007 is alleen nog van toepassing voor die bedrijven die in het Software Assurance programma meedoen.

Op het Exchange blog worden de mogelijkheden besproken voor de optie die we in Exchange 2003 een Standby Cluster noemden. Deze optie bestaat niet meer in Exchange 2007.

Network Monitor 3.0 is al eventjes uit. Het pakket werkt ook op Vista maar later bleek dat Microsoft een fout head gemaakt. Er zit nog code in die in april 2007 zal aflopen. Hierna werkt het pakket op Vista niet meer. Hiervoor is nu een update beschikbaar op de connect-site. Op andere Windows-versies treedt het euvel niet op.

Henrik Walther zet nog eens op een rij wat er in Exchange 2007 aan verbeteringen zijn op het vlak van de store.
During the early stages of the development phase of Exchange Server 2007, rumors about changing the store to SQL circulated the Internet. But these plans were dropped relatively quickly and chances are we won’t see an Exchange product where the store is based on SQL before E15 (yes that’s the version after E14!). But this doesn’t mean that Exchange Server 2007 doesn’t introduce any store related changes and improvements, because although the Exchange still is based on a more or less unchanged ESE database a lot of work went into providing a much more scalable, reliable, and optimized product which performs better than was the case with previous versions of Exchange.

Het Amerikaanse instituut EPA, agentschap voor milieubescherming, overweegt nu ook voor servers een keurmerk in te gaan voeren waar het zuinigheid op het gebied van energie betreft.
Dit is op zich wel een goede zaak omdat energieverbruik in datacenters van steeds groter belang wordt.
Onderzoek van Gartner toonde aan dat datacenters een steeds groter probleem hebben waar het energieverbruik en koeling betreft. De komende 6 maanden gaat de EPA echter eerst onderzoeken of een dergelijk keurmerk werkelijk zinvol is.

Op het blog van het Exchange team staat een stukje over het updaten van het spamfilter van Forefront. Enerzijds hoe je dat configureert, anderzijds hoevaak de updates uitkomen.

Microsoft heeft afgelopen vrijdag nog de vooraankondiging van de security updates voor januari online gezet. Diverse websites spreken over 8 patches maar uiteindelijk gaat het over 1 security bulletin voor Windows en 3 voor Office.
