Secunia meldt een denial-of-service lek in Windows 2000. Het lek heeft geen zware rating gekregen, Secunia houdt het op Less critical.

Security onderzoekers melden dat het door branch prediction van processoren wel eens een stuk eenvoudiger zou kunnen worden om hack aanvallen op encryptiesleutels uit te voeren.
De branch prediction zorgt ervoor dat een processor zo min mogelijk hoeft te wachten op de instructies. Op dit moment houden de onderzoekers hun resultaten nog geheim.
Men verwacht tijdens de RSA-conferentie in februari het e.e.a. uit de doeken te doen.
Er is een document verschenen waarin uit de doeken wordt gedaan hoe rootkits op geheugen van PCI-kaarten verstopt kunnen worden. Hiermee worden o.a. grafische kaarten dus mogelijk een doelwit. het vervelende lijkt te zijn dat de rootkits reboots en OS herinstallaties op deze manier kunnen overleven.

Service Desk v1 Screenshots In the "Introducing System Center v1" session on TechEd: IT Forum, they showed a live demo. Based on an incident, a change request was prepared. When submitted, the change manager got an email and used the Outlook voting buttons to respond. After that, a SMS software package was prepared. Very cool! Here are screenshots from the session:

Volgens Gartner zijn de meeste datacenters de laatste 6 jaar niet meer vervangen. Dat begint nu merkbaar tot problemen te leiden, zeker door de enorme 'boom' die er heeft plaatsgevonden met goedkope x86-servers. De servers gebruiken dusdanig veel stroom en genereren overeenkomstig veel warmte dat de energiekosten makkelijk 20 tot 303 procent van het IT-budget kunnen opslokken.
Met name de koeling van al deze servers begint een probleem te worden. Gewone airco's lijken steeds minder te volstaan. In principe moet al de vuistregel gehanteerd worden dat koelen zo'n 20 tot 30% meer energie verbruikt dan de geproduceerde warmte van de servers.
