Microsoft has released the extra out-of-band security bulletin MS06-055 for the Internet Explorer VML exploit.

Microsoft heeft het MS06-049 security bulletin opnieuw uitgebracht. Het heeft te maken met problemen die zich blijken voor te doen op Windows 2000 systemen die NTFS compressie gebruiken. Deze issues zijn nu opgelost.
Uiteraard vervangt het bulletin de vorige versie.

Microsoft heeft een speciaal knowledge base artikel uitgebracht voor die gevallen waarin een Windows systeem niet meer update via een van de update mechanismes zoals WU, SUS or WSUS.
Het is nu mogelijk de update agent als seperaat package te downloaden.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install Windows Update Agent 2.0. To obtain the Windows Update Agent 2.0 installation package, visit one of the following Microsoft Web sites, depending on the operating system that your computer runs:

Overview
Microsoft has released a new tool designed to help enterprises detect updates provided with the Microsoft Security Bulletins released September, 2006. This tool is a command line scanning tool built for the sole purpose of helping customers determine systems that may need security updates provided with the released bulletins. Users of this tool should have experience in deploying software to corporate environments and with using command line tools.

Microsoft's continuous backup tool Data Protection Manager 2006 is in beta en ondersteunt vanaf nu ook SQL en Exchange systemen.
DPM is een backup-to-disc systeem en Microsoft hoopt hiermee een goed alternatief neer te zetten voor tapebackupsystemen.

Mitch Tulloch neemt ons aan de hand om meer scripting te gebruiken voor het beheer van je Windows omgeving.
Hij hangt de filosofie aan van "geef een arme man een vis en hij kan eten, leer hem te vissen en hij kan voor zichzelf zorgen". Dit is volgens Mitch ook van toepassing op Windows admins en scripting.

Anderson Patricio bespreekt de journaling functie zoals die gevonden kan worden in de Hub Transport Server rol. Exchange 2007 heeft drastische verandering ondergaan op het gebied van de features en dat zal zich uiten in een geheel ander ontwerp bij grotere installaties. Deze journaling functie is daar een van. (Message journaling is de mogelijkheid om de komplete mailflow van een organisatie te kunnen opslaan)

Volgens Gartner komt Microsoft nu voor in het leader's kwadrant van het Magic Quadrant voor e-mail security. Dat zou o.a. komen door Microsoft's Hosted Exchange en Forefront Security for Exchange.
Microsoft is uiteraard laaiend enthouisast over deze waardering volgens Gartner.

Microsoft geeft echt gas op het gebied van anti-virus software en komt nu ook een Forefront pakket voor Sharepoint Server 2007 en Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0.
Het pakket gaat nu zijn publieke beta in. De basis van het pakket is Antigen for Sharepoint van Sybari, het bedrijf dat Microsoft eerder overnam.
