Scott Roberts of the Microsoft Exchange team responsible for delivering patches to WSUS explains why all the Exchange (2003) updates appear twice on WSUS.
 
The answer is rather simple: WSUS supports clustered and non-clustered Exchange installations. For clusters a manual installation is required though.

Het blijkt dat IBM vroeger uit zal komen met Lotus Notes dan verwacht. Het blijkt dat het pakket er op 24 juli zal zijn en niet pas volgend jaar zoals eerst werd aangenomen.
IBM doet haar uiterste best om het Linux-platform een flinke duw te geven. Voor Windows- of Mac-gebruikers van Notes is een kostenloze overstap naar de Linux-versie mogelijk.

Nu 10 Gig Ethernet mainstream begint te worden was het natuurlijk de vraag in hoverre de grote OS-leveranciers er klaar voor blijken te zijn. Hiervoor toog InfoWorld naar Sun en Microsoft.
Het bleek dat beide OS-makers hard bezig waren hun OS aan te passen voor deze nieuwe versnelling in de infrastructuur.
 
Sun blijkt een driver certificeringsprogramma opgestart te hebben en pleegt ondertussen optimalisatie van haar IP-stack voor Solaris.

Microsoft is ook begonnen met een driver programma om de 10 G nics meer compatible te krijgen met Windows. Daarnaast zal Longhorn een geheel herziene IP-stack hebben. Dat is niet speciaal voor de 10 G nics maar die profiteren uiteraard wel van het werk dat hier verricht wordt.

Op het gebied van Linux distro's is het akelig stil. Geen nekele leverancier roept iets over deze nieuwe hardware.

Microsoft heeft de R2-versie van Small Business Server 2003 klaar. R2 houdt altijd in dat er functionaliteit is toegevoegd waardoor er sprake is van nieuwe licenties als je het wilt gebruiken.
Veranderingen zitten o.a. in de toevoeging van Exchange 2003 SP2, de store limiet is ook hier van 16 Gb naar 75 Gb opgehoogd.
Daarnaast is er Green Check waarmee clients en servers kunnen worden gecontroleerd op de laatste security patches.
Een andere hele aardige features is dat de CAL's zijn aangepast, de clients hebben nu geen speciale licenties meer nodig om data op Exchange- of SQL-servers te benaderen.
