De startup Azaleos, opgericht door ex-Microsoft werknemers, brengt een geheel nieuwe disaster recovery tool voor Microwsoft's Exchange op de markt, genaamd Azaleos Full Fidelity Disaster Recovery.
Het bedrijf schept behoorlijk op en noemt gegarandeerde backups, 99,999% uptime voor Exchange en onsite upgrade naar Exchange 12.
Omdat de mensen voormalige Microsoft medewerkers zijn hebben zij het voordeel dat ze goed weten wat er allemaal speelt binnen Microsoft's Echange team, ze hebben natuurlijk volop contacten, maar weten bovendien goed wat er in de nabije toekomst allemaal nog op de rol staat.
Hun oplossing is gebaseerd op een eigen serverapplicatie maar maakt gebruik van een Network Appliance storage oplossing op de primaire en een scundaire site van de klant.
De eigen server, de zogenaamde OneServer, is een geclusterde Exchange 2003 appliance. Dit kan gekocht worden maar eventueel ook als dienst afgenomen worden.

Bink heeft op de blog van het Exchange team gelezen dat er een oplossing komt voor het event id 9548 probleem dat veelvuldig voorkomt op Exchange 2000 en 2003 servers.
Er is nu al een oplossing voor Exchange 2003 SP1 maar nog niet voor SP2, die komt later volgens Bink.
Het heeft te maken met ontbrekende MasterAccountSIDs, iets waarvoor Microsoft vorig jaar een zogenaamd Critical Design Change Request heeft goedgekeurd.

Microsoft heeft haar Frontbirdge Technologies opnieuw op de rails gezet; een nieuwe roadmap, een licentiemodel en een nieuwe naam. Voortaan zal het door het leven gaan als Exchange Hosted Services.
De dienst bestaat uit 4 subdiensten: Hosted Filtering, Hosted Archiving, Hosted Continuity en Hosted Encryption.

IBM blijkt resellers van haar op Linux gebaseerde pakketten Lotus Notes en Domino $ 20.000 te bieden als ze klanten van Exchange weten over te halen om over te stappen.
De $ 20.000 is de maximale bonus die resellers bij elkaar kunnen verdienen in een jaar.

Hoewel dit een beetje een aparte plaats is om het te lezen is het wel reuze interessant. Het blijkt dat Windows XP en Windows 2003 een command line tool hebben, WMIC, waarmee een Windows computer (ook Windows 2000) via de WMI-interface aan te spreken is.
De handler van dienst doet in zijn verhaal uit de doeken waarom hij dit wilde gebruiken: het bedienen van een computer die door spyware dienst weigerde.
In het artikel wordt al redelijk verteld wat je allemaal met WMIC kunt doen maar ongetwijfeld is dit niet uitputtend.
